Call for Papers

The Kenya Sugar Board invites submissions for the Sugar Industry Innovation Symposium & Expo 2025 (TUSONGE Edition – Together, Unlocking Sugar Optimisation for National Growth and Engagement), to be held from 2nd to 4th December 2025 at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel, Kisumu.

This year’s theme, “Towards a Globally Competitive Sugar Industry,” calls for bold, transformative ideas that can shape the future of the sector through cutting-edge innovation, sustainable solutions, and strategic partnerships. We welcome abstracts and concept papers from individuals, institutions, and enterprises across the entire sugar value chain — focusing on solutions that can be incubated, commercialised, or scaled for real-world impact.

• 1. Submission Process:
  Papers should be submitted electronically via the innovation portal at sugarinnovation.go.ke/registration/innovator.
  The file name should follow this format: Author’sLastName.pdf (e.g. Kyalo.pdf).
• 2. Paper Content & Format:
  • Include title, author(s), corresponding email, telephone contact, and optional institutional affiliation.
  • Title: CAPITAL LETTERS, centred.
  • Author names: left-justified on the line below the title.
  • Begin with a brief abstract (max 150 words) summarising the key idea or result.
  • Maximum length: 4 pages (including tables and figures).
  • Format: English, Times New Roman, 11pt, single spacing.
  • References should follow APA style.
• 3. Content Note:
  While the Symposium provides thematic areas, submissions are not restricted to them. Papers should go beyond descriptive or academic writing and present a clear value proposition — whether a concept, prototype, or solution roadmap with potential for real-world application and industry impact.
• 4. Review & Opportunities:
  All submissions will undergo a rigorous review process. Accepted authors and innovators will be invited to present their work at the Symposium, with facilitation (daily stipend and transport) provided.
  In addition, the top three innovations will receive recognition and rewards:
  • Top Innovator: KES 350,000 + gift hamper, industry linkages, and incubation support.
  • First Runner-Up: KES 200,000 + industry linkages and incubation support.
  • Second Runner-Up: KES 100,000 + industry linkages and incubation support.
  Awardees will also have the option to join a six-month mentorship and internship programme at the Kenya Sugar Board.
